NATIONAL DRINKING WATER WEEK

The Wonder of Water

Over 300 students at Carpenters and Lanier Elementary Schools celebrated National Drinking Water Week (May 6-12) with the South Blount County Utility District.

SBCUD Water Plant Manager, Danny Gregory gave a presentation about the Wonder of Water to the students in kindergarten thru fourth grade. The students discovered how the amazing water system works by tracking the exact route the water travels to get into the faucet of their school or home here in Blount County. The presentation also uncovered all the important uses for water including fire protection and hydration and the best ways to conserve this precious resource. Students were able to see what it would be like to not have abundant supplies of clean drinking water from the stories and pictures of places like Haiti.

For more than 30 years the American Water Works Association (AWWA) has celebrated National Drinking Water Week with its members. Our utility, a long time member of the AWWA, is proud to be apart of this celebration for the first time this year.

We extend our appreciation and congratulations to the students and educators who participated in Blount County’s First Annual Drinking Water Week!
